Computer generations

 Generations of computer

computer is an advanced electronic device that takes input as raw data from the user and processes this data under the control of a set of instruction called programand gives the desired result as an output and also saves output for the future use and print the result in desired format.it took a lot of time to develop the modern computer behind the modern computer there were many generation involved.

There are many five generations of computer.

First generation computer

The period of first generation computer was (1942 - 1959).

first generation computers were characterized by the fact that operating instructions were made to order for the specific task for which the computer was to be used.

In the first generation computer ,vacuum tubes as a CPU, magnetic drum for data storage and machine languages were used for giving instructions. the computer of this generation were very large in size called
room-sized computers.

The programming of the first generation computer was done in the machine language (0s and1S).afterwards ,assembly language was developed and used in first generation computer. the example of first generation computer ENIAC,UNIVAC,EDVAC and EDSAC.

Second generation computer

The period of 2nd generation computer was (1959 - 1965) .

The second generation computer replace machine language with assembly ,language allowing abbreviated programming codes to replace long ,difficult binary codes .The transistor was developed in the generation.  A transistor transfer electric signals across a resistor. A transistor was highly reliable compared to tubes.

the transistor was far more superior in the performance on account of their miniature size smaller power consumption and heat production rate. the second generation computer used these semiconductor device. example of 2nd generation computer include :IBM 1920,IBM 1401,PDP-8 and CDC 1604.

Third generation computer

The period of third generation computer was (1965 - 1975).

The transistor were an improved version over the vacuum tube ,but they still generated great heat ,which damage computer sensitive part the quartz eliminated this problem. The example of third generation computer are IBM -360 series ,ICL -900 series and Honeywell 200 series.

 Fourth generation computer

The period of 4th generation computer was (1975 - 1988 ).

The invention of microprocessor chip marked the beginning of the fourth generation computer .semiconductor memories replaced magnetic core memories. The invention of microprocessor led to the development of microcomputer or the personal computer .The first microprocessor called
Intel 4004 was
developed by American Intel corporation in 1971 .This computer had faster generation language and application software microcomputer become a popular and allowed home and business users to adapt their computer for word processing ,spreadsheet manipulating ,file and handling and graphics.

Fifth generation computer

The period of 5th generation computer was (1988-present).

The aim is to bring machine with genuine IQ ,the ability to reason logically and with real knowledge of the world .Thus, this computer will be totally different totally novel and totally new then the last four generation of computer. fifth generation computeris based on artificial intelligence (AI) and is still developing process, but not yet a reality example -this computer is incomplete . the scientist are still working on it .These computers will be able to Converse with people and will be able to mimic human senses, manual skills ,and intelligence . Robot is example of 5th generation computer.
